School Overview
Genesee Early College (GEC) is a unique, five-year public high school located on the campus of the University of Michigan-Flint. Designed as an early/middle college program, it allows students to earn both their high school diploma and up to two years of transferable college credit—or an associate degree—simultaneously. By integrating a rigorous high school curriculum with actual university coursework, the school aims to bridge the gap between secondary and higher education, providing students with a head start on their professional or academic careers at no cost to families.

The school is noted for its focus on preparing students for the demands of a university environment within a supportive, smaller community setting. Because GEC is situated in downtown Flint, students benefit from full access to university resources, including libraries, labs, and campus facilities. This model is particularly beneficial for students who are motivated to accelerate their education, as it fosters independence, time management, and academic maturity, effectively transitioning them from a high school learner to a college-ready scholar before they graduate.
