Learning by Design Charter District

Learning by Design Charter District is an active, independent public charter district dedicated to foundational elementary education in South Los Angeles. Situated in a vibrant, large city setting at 7019 South Van Ness Avenue, this single-school district provides an intimate academic environment serving students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Operating as its own local educational agency for federal programs, the district focuses exclusively on early childhood and primary education, cultivating a close-knit school community designed to support young scholars during their most formative learning years.

Currently enrolling 114 students, the district maintains a diverse student body that reflects the rich cultural fabric of its surrounding community, with a student population predominantly comprising Black and Hispanic children. Learning by Design emphasizes personalized care and strong learning foundations, backed by a robust staff of 31 full-time equivalent team members. This includes 10 dedicated classroom teachers—maintaining an advantageous student-to-teacher ratio of roughly 11 to 1—supported by instructional aides and specialized support personnel.
