IDAHO BUREAU OF EDUCATIONAL SERVICES FOR THE DEAF AND THE BL

The Idaho Bureau of Educational Services for the Deaf and the Blind is an active, state-operated educational agency headquartered at 1450 Main Street in Gooding, Idaho. Functioning as a specialized, non-charter district, the bureau serves students across a comprehensive grade spectrum from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade within its single operational school facility. Situated in a distant rural setting, the district fulfills a vital statewide mission by delivering tailored academic programs, specialized services, and specialized support to children who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired.

During the 2024–2025 school year, the district enrolled a total of 111 students, featuring a balanced gender distribution of 55 female and 56 male learners. The student body is culturally diverse, comprising 69 White, 32 Hispanic, 5 Black, 2 multiracial, and single-student representations across Asian, American Indian, and Pacific Islander backgrounds, with its largest single cohort comprising 24 students in the 12th grade. To meet the intensive, highly individualized needs of its student population, the district maintains a remarkably low student-to-teacher environment supported by a robust professional workforce. With over 41 full-time equivalent (FTE) teachers and nearly 9 FTE support staff members—bringing total staffing to approximately 50 FTE positions—the agency provides an exceptional level of direct instruction, therapeutic intervention, and specialized care designed to help every student succeed.
