Steel City Academy

Steel City Academy is an active, independent charter district located at 2650 West 35th Avenue in Gary, Indiana. Situated within a large suburban environment in the greater Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metropolitan area, this single-school district delivers a continuous academic pathway serving students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. By offering a comprehensive K–12 educational program under one roof, the academy provides families with a stable, cohesive learning environment designed to guide children seamlessly from early childhood education through high school graduation.

During the current academic year, the academy serves a focused, close-knit student body of 286 pupils, reflecting a rich local culture composed predominantly of Black students alongside Hispanic, multiracial, and White peers. The district is particularly distinguished by its substantial staffing context, maintaining a dedicated team of 120 full-time equivalent staff members to support its student population. With 64 full-time teachers, six instructional aides, and 50 support personnel, Steel City Academy fosters an exceptionally low student-to-teacher ratio that ensures highly individualized instruction, strong personal mentorship, and comprehensive wrap-around services tailored to every learner's needs.
