Up North Learning Center

Located at 5413 County Road 37 NW in Walker, Minnesota, Up North Learning Center is an active, public special education and vocational district serving families across a remote rural setting in the greater Brainerd region. Operating as a non-charter district with a single dedicated learning facility, the center is structured to offer comprehensive programming across a complete Kindergarten through 12th-grade continuum. Designed to provide targeted academic pathways and specialized support, the district delivers individualized educational experiences tailored to students whose needs extend beyond standard classroom environments.

During the 2024–2025 school year, the district maintains an intimate environment with a total enrollment of 13 students, primarily concentrated across the upper elementary and middle school grade levels. This small cohort benefits from exceptional instructional access, powered by a staff of 5.34 full-time equivalent teachers and nearly three dedicated support staff members—resulting in a remarkable student-to-teacher ratio of roughly two-to-one.
