Neuse Charter School

Neuse Charter School is an active, independent charter school district operating a single unified campus at 909 M. Durwood Stephenson Park in Smithfield, North Carolina. Set within a rural fringe community inside the dynamic Raleigh-Cary metropolitan area, the district offers families a continuous educational journey spanning kindergarten through 12th grade. As a fully operational public charter institution, Neuse Charter School serves primary, middle, and secondary students within a single learning environment, combining the accessibility of a local school with the flexibility of a public charter framework.

During the 2024–2025 academic year, the district enrolled 925 students, maintaining a balanced student body of 470 male and 455 female learners. The student population reflects a diverse community context, comprising 586 White, 140 Hispanic, 109 Black, 80 multiracial, 7 Asian, and 3 American Indian students distributed across all primary and secondary grade levels. To support this student body, Neuse Charter School employs a dedicated workforce of approximately 106 full-time equivalent (FTE) teachers as part of a total staffing model of nearly 108 FTE positions. This staffing structure ensures robust instructional coverage across all grades, offering parents a stable academic option and providing educational researchers with a compelling model of a K–12 rural-fringe charter district.
