Arts Based School

Located at 1380 Martin Luther King Jr Drive in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the Arts Based School operates as an active, independent public charter district serving the surrounding large-city community. Designed to provide a comprehensive educational foundation from kindergarten through eighth grade, this single-school district currently educates a total of 663 students. The student body—comprising 355 female and 308 male students—represents a vibrant learning community that includes 408 White, 135 Black, 59 multi-racial, and 58 Hispanic students, alongside Asian and American Indian scholars. Enrollment is particularly robust in the early elementary years, led by 102 second-grade students, before transitioning into close-knit middle school grade levels.

To foster a rich learning environment, the Arts Based School maintains a remarkably strong staffing model tailored to individualized instruction. The district employs 100 full-time equivalent staff members, driven primarily by 98 full-time equivalent teachers and supported by dedicated operational personnel.
