WESTERN GATEWAY (CHARTER)

Located at 1300 SW 15th Street in Oklahoma City, Western Gateway is an active, independent charter school district serving a vibrant urban community. Operating a single campus within a large city setting, the district focuses exclusively on early childhood and foundational elementary education, offering programs from pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. Currently welcoming 300 enrolled students—comprising 161 female and 139 male scholars—the school fosters a rich cultural environment. Its diverse student body includes 240 Hispanic students, 36 White students, 12 Black students, 11 students of two or more races, and 1 Asian student, creating a close-knit learning community tailored to the developmental needs of young learners.

To ensure small group support and individualized attention, Western Gateway maintains a highly favorable staffing model. The district employs 34 full-time equivalent (FTE) teachers alongside 12 instructional aides and over 30 dedicated support staff members, totaling more than 76 full-time personnel across the district. This multi-layered educational team creates an ideal environment for early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional growth, maintaining a teacher-to-student ratio of under 1 to 9. Functioning as its own local educational agency for federal programs, Western Gateway combines the flexibility of an independent charter with comprehensive academic resources, offering families and educational researchers an impactful model of focused early elementary education in the heart of Oklahoma City.
