CHEROKEE IMMERSION CHARTER ES

Located along Highway 62 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Cherokee Immersion Charter ES is an open, independent charter district operating within a rural fringe setting. Functioning as its own local education agency for federal programs, the district oversees two operational schools tailored to serve students from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade. Situated in the heart of the Tahlequah community, this specialized learning environment delivers early childhood, elementary, and middle-school instruction designed to foster both academic growth and cultural grounding during these foundational years.

The district supports a close-knit learning community of 116 enrolled students, reflecting a distinct demographic makeup with 104 American Indian students, eight Hispanic students, and four students identifying with two or more races. To nurture this student body of 50 female and 66 male learners, Cherokee Immersion Charter ES maintains an exceptionally supportive staffing context. The district employs approximately 58 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff members, including over 18 teacher FTEs, seven instructional aides, and more than 33 support staff personnel.
