Urban Collaborative

Located at 75 Carpenter Street in Providence, Rhode Island, the Urban Collaborative operates as an active, state-operated public educational agency within a vibrant midsize city setting. Positioned in the Providence-Warwick metropolitan area, this non-charter district provides a specialized learning environment through a single operational school dedicated entirely to early adolescence. By concentrating exclusively on seventh and eighth grades, the district shapes its academic programs, student services, and school culture around the unique developmental and transitional needs of middle school learners.

The district currently serves a close-knit community of 145 students—comprising 66 seventh graders and 79 eighth graders—reflecting a diverse demographic fabric that includes 95 Hispanic, 30 Black, 9 White, 4 American Indian, 3 Asian, and 2 Pacific Islander students, alongside students identifying with two or more races. Urban Collaborative is particularly distinguished by its remarkably rich staffing environment. With 28 full-time equivalent teachers, 7 instructional aides, and 33 support staff members—totaling 68 dedicated full-time equivalent professionals—the district maintains an exceptionally low student-to-educator ratio.
