Sheila Skip Nowell Leadership Academy

Located at 150 Washington Street in Providence, Rhode Island, the Sheila Skip Nowell Leadership Academy is an active, state-operated public school district dedicated to serving high school students in grades 9 through 12. Situated within the vibrant context of a midsize city in the Providence-Warwick metropolitan area, this single-school agency provides a specialized secondary education framework outside the traditional charter model. Designed to empower young learners, the academy delivers focused academic instruction and leadership development in an accessible downtown urban setting.

During the current academic year, the academy serves a student body of 187 scholars, comprising 54 ninth graders, 44 tenth graders, 36 eleventh graders, and 53 seniors. The student population is predominantly female and culturally diverse, represented by a strong Hispanic majority alongside Black, White, multiracial, Asian, and Native American students. To foster an intensive and supportive learning environment, the district employs a robust team of 56 full-time equivalent staff members, including 30 full-time equivalent teachers and 26 dedicated support personnel.
