Highlander

Highlander Charter District, an active independent public charter district headquartered at 42 Lexington Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island, offers a continuous educational pathway spanning prekindergarten through 12th grade. Functioning as its own local educational agency for federal programs, the district operates two active school campuses within the greater Providence-Warwick metropolitan area, serving a community characterized in federal geographic classifications as a rural fringe setting. By offering complete elementary, middle, and high school programming under unified charter leadership, Highlander provides families across the region with a seamless, long-term learning environment designed to support students throughout every stage of their academic journey.

For the 2024–2025 school year, Highlander serves a vibrant and diverse student body of 617 learners, comprising 315 Hispanic, 161 Black, 102 White, 19 American Indian, 13 multi-racial, 3 Asian, and 3 Pacific Islander students, with a near-even gender balance of 316 female and 300 male students. To support learning and student well-being, the district maintains a robust human resources infrastructure consisting of 172 full-time equivalent staff members. This includes 86 dedicated classroom teachers, 11 instructional aides, and 75 specialized support staff members.
