Lower Brule Day School

Lower Brule Day School is an open, single-facility public school district located at 227 BIA 10 in Lower Brule, South Dakota. Set in a rural remote geographic region, the district operates independently as a regular public system outside of any supervisory union or charter framework. Designed to support learners throughout their entire primary and secondary academic journey, the district delivers complete instructional programming spanning from kindergarten through 12th grade.

For the 2024–2025 school year, the district serves a student body of 337 children, comprising 178 male and 159 female students, all of whom identify as American Indian. Grade-level enrollments are balanced across the system, ranging from 17 students in the first grade to a peak of 35 in the ninth grade, alongside 31 high school seniors preparing for graduation. To foster a supportive educational environment, the district maintains a full-time equivalent staff of 70 personnel. This team includes 34 classroom teachers, 7 instructional aides, and 29 support staff members, working together to provide targeted academic and operational resources for the surrounding community.
